Regency Bridgerton Flowered Ballgown
Bridgerton inspired fantasy Regency ballgown made for the Costume College 2024 Gala.
There was a lovely flower arch into the Costume College Gala
Found two other costumers who had used the same embroidered net fabric from Joann's, one in a different colorway. Different looks with different underdress colors.
Dress
Lilac polyester satin underdress with heavily flower embroidered net overlay has puffed sleeves, empire waist, and
invisible back zip.
Pattern: Simplicity S9502
Modifications include: Could change back seam lines to more straight instead of curved for slightly more historical look.
At some point stopped reading instructions for construction.
- Size 20W
- Take in CF bodice 1.25" on top and 5/8" on bottom. (Total 2.5" in on top)
- Rescoop neckline
- Shorten hem 7". 6" for overdress skirts
- Added neckline piping.
- Add 3/8" height to sleeve binding and use 24W
- Overlay net 80W x 43H for skirt gathered. Only used one back seam for net.
- On Overdress: long sleeves shorten 3" and tapered wrists. Cut down and whipstitched to over dress sleeve binding. Took in more at the top because sleeves seemed overly wide.
- On Overdress: Belt shortened 1"
Construction Notes
20240724 Ditched the overdress and made in larger size.
20240617 Size 18 was too small even though should have fit based on finished measurements on pattern pieces. Larger pattern purchased. The difference between size 18 and size 20 is vast. If you are somewhere in the Large but not quite Plus sizes in modern garments, you will possibly fall in between these two sizes like I did.
20240609 Andrea Schewe patterns often don't fit me so will see how it goes.
