Reproduction 1963 Red Hibiscus Dress
1960s style dress with tropical fabric worn to Crocker ArtMix in April 2024 and Costume College in July 2024.

Red hisbiscus Thai batik cotton high waist bodice has self fabric bow, left zip, horsehair braided hem, waterfall back,
short sleeve, hidden side pockets.
Pattern: Vogue V1965 Misses' One Piece Evening Dress. Modifications include:
- Size 18. Taper seam allowance after hips. Size 22 sleeves.
- Narrowed shoulders by 1/4" and front shoulder by 1/2"
- Narrow bodice side seam at top by 1/4"
- Shortened hem 2" + 5" = 7"
- Pattern looked like middle of belt was sewn on waist seam line. Stitched top of belt to waist line and belt was still 3.25" too short.
Notes for future changes after first wearing
- Probably 2-3" too small in hips. Even with Ragu shapewear underneath. Not sure if extra can be added in the seams under the waterfall.
- Side pockets were a nice idea because who doesn't want pockets, but may be adding extra bulk to hip area. Should remove pockets for smoother look which means redoing zipper.
- Feels like whole dress may need to be shifted up about 1/2" to 3/4" possibly just at the shoulder seam.
- Wide shoulders too wide. May try adding front neck darts.
